With fine golden sand, the Matalascañas beach stretches for 7 km along the Huelva coastline. It has an urbanized part that consists of very good facilities. As we move away from Matalascañas, the beach becomes more and more virgin, entering the Doñana National Park. It is undoubtedly an excellent place to enjoy the magnificent Andalusian sun and one of its best beaches.

Services: Boardwalk, aid stations, showers along the beach, litter bins, disabled access, telephone booths, drinking water; rental of hammocks, umbrellas and boats, parking lots and restaurants.

La Rabida

La Rabida

Monastery of La Rábida. The most famous of all the monasteries in the province of Huelva is that of Santa María de La Rábida, of exceptional importance and importance in the origins and preparations for the discovery of America. On a prominent mound on the left bank of the Rio Tinto, stands this simple yet impressive historic building.

It belongs to the Franciscan order. It is assumed that in 1412 (XV century), the year in which Pope Benedict XIII promulgated the founding bull, the building, including the church, was already built.

Before the middle of the s. XV other important works had been completed, and by the end of this the rest of the lesser-known dependencies. Hence the Gothic and Mudejar styles predominate in the whole complex.

The monastery was declared a National Monument in 1856 (19th century), and after the events of the IV Centennial of Discovery it was integrated in 1967 (20th century) with all its surroundings, in the historical-artistic complex known as "Colombian Places".

Caravel dock

Caravel dock

In 1994, El Muelle de Las Carabelas was built in the area of La Rábida, creating and claiming the place of departure and gestation of that first trip that led to the discovery of America. It is located in the town of Palos de la Frontera, between the marshes and sandbanks at the mouth of the Ríos Tinto - Odiel.

With the Caravels Dock in La Rábida the vision of a momentous event is combined with the visit to the interior of the ships, the gestation of the project is mixed with the possibility of a great trip.

If the Monastery represents the place where the theses and strategies were elaborated, the place that served as a shelter for a disillusioned Admiral while the trip was forged, the Pier leads us to action, to the days of hardship and salvation, to those experiences that they had this same scenario and which lasted from August 3 to October 12.

Therefore, in a semicircular dock, on the banks of the Rio Tinto and just a few kilometers from the "Real" port that saw its predecessors leave back in 1492, this building has been located. The enclave, his original, has a complementary space where an Exhibition Hall dedicated to the 15th century and an Audiovisual Room are located, but also, it has a large outdoor area where the ships are located (La Niña, la Pinta and the Santa María) that will lead us to the action of all that is related.

In the Exhibition Hall, we will find correspondence from Columbus to the Kings, navigation charts with traced routes, delimitation treaties that confronted us with the Neighboring Country and countless documents, maps and portulans that served as first aid in that first crossing, where guided by instruments, sometimes by the stars, and sometimes by esteem, they were finally able to achieve the challenge set. We will also be able, through sequences and reality, to become a wonderful carpenter on the riverbank, with his tools being able to repair the ship.
